If you’re researching route planning software and important route planner features, this short article on RouteSavvy’s Folders organization function will do the trick. The folders function in RouteSavvy is tremendously useful for organizing your locations (addresses) in the RouteSavvy route planning tool. Folders can be used to organize your delivery, pick-up, and sales/service call data into different regions, territories, drivers, days of the week, open/complete status, and more. Folders can contain many individual locations (addresses).
With RouteSavvy, you can manually create and empty folder, which is useful as a starting point to organize locations. This is useful if your want to layout your folder structure before you add address data.
But more useful, if you import addresses in a spreadsheet using the RouteSavvy Data Wizard, a folder is created with the spreadsheet name.
Additionally, if you choose a Folder name field in the spreadsheet, then muliple folders will be created with the values from the spreadsheet. This is very useful if you have already sorted your data and want that to be maintained in RouteSavvy.
Note: If you add one location at a time using with Quick Add or Add Location button, those new locations will show up in the My Locations folder.
Properties and actions can be performed on a folder which makes it much easier to work with groups of locations. For example, you can “Add Folder As Stops,” and all the locations in that folder will be added as stops into the active route you want to optimize. Or you can highlight, delete, or change the icon of locations in the folder with just one click in the folder properties. Just right click on a folder name to see all the actions.
More Quick Tips on the Folders Function as One of RouteSavvy’s Route Planner Features:
- If you’re working with a large number of locations, deselect the “Show Folder on Map” option. This will hide the locations in that folder and increase map performance.
- Try the “Highlight Folder” option. This will put a yellow highlight around the icons on the map. This helps you identify locations in particular folders. You can move individual locations from one folder to another using the “Change Folder” option on the individual location.
- If you want to move many locations from one folder to another, use the “Shape” selection. Then right click and choose “Move Visible Locations to Another Folder.”
- The bottom line is that the “Folders” functions within RouteSavvy are one of a number of very useful route planner features that will help you organize routes in ways that are most needed by your organization.
